Hair Growth Confession & Update (Massage Monday #504)

Back in April last year, I did a video on derma roller on scalp to see if it will help grow my hair. I said I would try it once a week for 6-9 months.

So I did it diligently for five weeks. Then I started traveling. In May I went to Portland, Oregon to see Mr. Yoshida, the founder of Yoshida Sauce

With Junki Yoshida

and Ken Honda the author of Happy Money.

By the way, if you haven’t tried Yoshida Sauce, you have to try it. I’m not a big cook but it’s so good and versatile and makes my cooking super easy.

And if you haven’t read Happy Money, read it if you want to be free of your money stress.

He now has Money EQ course on I highly recommend you check out his free Master Class on money to heal your money wounds. I’ll put the link below.

Anyway, that was May. Then I toured around Japan in June with my friends.

And I went back to Portland in August to attend Mr. Yoshida’s charity event at his now-donated estate. Yes he donated his 15 acre estate to a children’s hospital so children with cancer can be treated. Amazing.

From there I went to a camping at ECETI in Washington.

Then I went to San Jose to attend Wim Hoff event to dip in an ice bath,

came back and went to Chargers/Broncos game,

and went to Hawaii all in the same week.

Then I went to a big hiking and camping trip in Havasupai in November

and Japan again in December to see my family and U2.

Happy Times 🙂

I also had camping trips, concerts, and seminars in between.

I know it’s just an excuse but I miserably failed to resume derma roller between trips.

Then this pandemic happened and I thought this would be a great time to do it because I’d be stuck at home anyway. But then derma roller had to be disinfected before and after use by soaking in rubbing alcohol and rubbing alcohol has been such a precious commodity. I still can’t get it at a local store. This is the only bottle I had during the lockdown and I’m still using this sparingly.

So I have resumed applying just castor oil on my scalp. Castor oil has amazing benefits including hair growth. I have this mixture of castor oil with few drops of rosemary, lavender, and mint essential oils. They’re all said to be good for hair growth. I know coconut oil is also good but I just wanted to try with castor oil first. I may add coconut oil later.

I apply the oil mixture on the parting. Scalp massage is also good for lifting your face so this is good for scalp and face. And I massage it in by massaging the scalp with my fingers. This will spread it and loosen the scalp. I’m not rubbing over the scalp with my fingertips. I’m moving the scalp on different sections. When you loosen the scalp you will have better circulation which leads to better nutrients delivered to the hair roots. I massage the hairline in the front.

The ricinoleic acid in castor oil helps to stimulate and nourish dormant follicles to promote hair growth while strengthening the hair roots and therefore preventing hair loss.

Organic Castor Oil

Rosemary essential oil promotes circulation and nerve growth and prevents premature graying. It’s antimicrobial, antibacterial, antifungal and hydrates dry scalp. In one study it was as effective as Minoxidil, a common hair growth drug, but without a side effect of itchy scalp.

I massage the sides too because I know this helps to lift cheeks and good for the eyes. I also use the flat part of my fingers to loosen the scalp.

Lavender essential oil is antimicrobial and antibacterial to maintain the clean scalp health. In one study lavender oil grew hair faster than without lavender oil on mice. Lavender oil is very relaxing which may help you de-stress because stress can be the cause of the hair loss.

Organic Lavender Oil

Peppermint essential oil is also antimicrobial to combat dry itchy scalp. And it promotes circulation. Menthol which is the big part of peppermint oil is known to widen the blood vessels which increases the blood flow. In one study it performed even better than Minoxidil.

I’ll put the link to all the studies I’ve mentioned in the description. Thank you mice for sacrificing.

Press the acupressure points. I have a video on that too so I will include the link.

With clawed fingers, do several long strokes from the front all the way to the back by combing through the hair. Castor oil is a great moisturizer and it restores your scalp and hair making your hair healthy and shiny.

I cover my pillow with a towel because the castor oil is very thick.

And I put my hair up with a clip and go to bed like this and wash it off in the morning.

I didn’t have a flaky itchy scalp but it was on a drier side. I’ve been doing this every other day or at least 3 times a week for 2 weeks now. After trying this for 2 weeks my scalp isn’t dry and I feel like my hair has little bit more volume than before when I put it up but I think that’s too good to be true after only 2 weeks.

Here are some cautions:

This does not replace any medical treatments. Please consult your doctor if this is ok to do if you are under a physician’s care for conditions such as alopecia.

I recommend you do a patch test first in case you have an allergic reaction to any of the ingredients.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, don’t do this because you should avoid using castor oil and rosemary essential oil.

This is much easier than derma roller so I think I can continue to do this. Will see. Just for a record this is my before picture. Here’s my unflattering top view. I haven’t done anything about gray hair either. Let’s see if there will be any change in 6 months.
